Las Vegas and Nevada Growth Continue
Nevada was the fastest-growing state (by percentage) in the nation for more than a generation until neighboring Arizona edged it out in 2006 (Nevada was second).
Home sales slow in February [del.icio.us] - Rmail
Southern Nevada saw just 1,407 homes sales in February, a 21.3 drop from the previous year, reports the Greater Las Vegas Association of Realtors. Median sale prices, however, inched up to $310,000, a 0.3 percent gain over the same month in 2006.
Primm purchase gets board support [del.icio.us] - Rmail
The growing Herbst Gaming operation received tentative approval Wednesday to acquire its largest assets yet, the three Primm casinos on the Nevada-California border now operated by MGM Mirage.
Sahara Gets New Owners - Rmail
The Sahara Hotel and Casino is getting new owners. California-based SBE Entertainment Group LLC and Stockbridge Real Estate Funds will acquire the property from Gordon Gaming Group for an undisclosed amount.
Once the transaction closes, SBE will manage the hotel and its food and beverage operations through its subsidiaries. Larry Woolf's Navegante Group will operate the casino business under a lease arrangement.
The new owners also plan to reposition the property once it takes control. Specifics are not available regarding this planned repositioning but SBE has said it will involve updating the property for "a new generation of travelers, while preserving its existing scale."
