Red Flag Warning - Lake Mead NRA, Colorado River,NV side (Nevada) Posted: 19 Sep 2007 09:04 AM GMT-06:00 RED FLAG WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM PDT /11 AM MST/ THIS MORNING TO 9 PM PDT /9 PM MST/ THIS EVENING FOR GUSTY WINDS AND LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITIES... A RED FLAG WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM PDT /11 AM MST/ THIS MORNING TO 9 PM PDT /9 PM MST/ THIS EVENING FOR GUSTY WINDS AND LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITIES. A STRONG LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM WILL DROP SOUTH INTO NORTHERN CALIFORNIA BY THIS AFTERNOON. THIS WILL RESULT IN INCREASING SOUTHWEST FLOW ALOFT WHICH WILL BRING SUSTAINED WINDS OF 15 TO 30 MPH WITH GUSTS TO BETWEEN 35 AND 45 MPH TO MUCH OF THE AREA DURING THE AFTERNOON AND EVENING. IN ADDITION TO THE WINDS...MINIMUM RELATIVE HUMIDITY VALUES OVER THE AREA ARE EXPECTED TO BE CLOSE TO OR BELOW 15 PERCENT WITH MANY AREAS DROPPING TO THE SINGLE DIGITS. THIS COMBINATION OF STRONG WINDS AND LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITIES WILL PERSIST INTO THE EVENING HOURS BEFORE CONDITIONS MODERATE AFTER 9 PM. A RED FLAG WARNING MEANS THAT CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS ARE EITHER OCCURRING OR ARE IMMINENT. A WIND ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM PDT /11 AM MST/ THIS MORNING TO 9 PM PDT /9 PM MST/ THIS EVENING. SOUTH TO SOUTHWEST WINDS WILL INCREASE ACROSS THE SOUTHERN GREAT BASIN AND MOJAVE DESERT TODAY AS A STRONG LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM MOVES SOUTH INTO NORTHERN CALIFORNIA. SOUTH TO SOUTHWEST WINDS WILL BECOME SUSTAINED IN THE 15 TO 30 MPH RANGE BY ABOUT NOON WITH GUSTS GENERALLY BETWEEN 40 AND 45 MPH. WIND GUSTS AROUND 55 MPH ARE POSSIBLE ALONG THE EAST SLOPES OF THE SIERRA ABOVE 5000 FEET. STRONG WINDS WILL PERSIST INTO THE EVENING HOURS BEFORE DECREASING AFTER ABOUT 9 PM PDT / MST. THE STRONG WIND GUSTS COULD CAUSE BLOWING SAND AND DUST WHICH MAY SUDDENLY REDUCE VISIBILITY. DRIVERS OF VANS...CAMPERS... TRAILERS...AND OTHER HIGH PROFILE VEHICLES SHOULD BE ESPECIALLY ALERT TO THE DANGER OF THESE WINDS. IN ADDITION...STRONG WINDS IN EXCESS OF 30 MPH WILL CREATE DANGEROUS BOATING CONDITIONS ON AREA LAKES DURING THE ADVISORY PERIOD.
