| Posted: 19 Jan 2012 06:28 AM PST Original loan was for a primary home in Las Vegas. Then we moved and had to rent out. Its now an "investment" home if you can even call it that. If we do a short sale, would it be considered a primary home if we now have a second home in another state? |
| Posted: 19 Jan 2012 06:25 AM PST We bought in 2006, house has lost $200K in value and we cannot sell it without taking a huge hit. We were active duty military but are now reservist living in another state. HAP is only for active duty or wounded warriors.Is there any programs for veterans that moved due to PCS orders to help them with the lost debt due to housing market fallout that anyone here knows about? |
| Posted: 19 Jan 2012 06:35 AM PST We don't know much but we are concerned with several items. 1. What assets can be taken? (IRA's, Money Markets, cars?) 2. If we complete a short sale, can the lender ever come back to get the money later? 3. What else should we be concerned with that we aren't thinking about...other than the fact that we know our credit will be hurt. Are there any tricks that banks use that we should be aware of? Thanks! |
| Posted: 19 Jan 2012 06:43 AM PST I have read some about the Debt Relief Act but it was a confusing IRS form that I didnt really understand. The gist I got out of it is that I could be hit quite big if my short sale is approved and the debt is considered income in 2012. Is this the case for all investment properties that undergo a short sale? If so, how can I figure out how much I would be taxed on the debt that was forgiven? |
